General Pest Management
Course

The General Pest Management course consists of three of the core units of competency from CPP30119 Certificate III in Urban Pest Management.

These units are:

CPPUPM3005: Manage pests without applying pesticides,
• CPPUPM3006: Manage pests applying pesticides, and
• CPPUPM3018: Maintain equipment and pesticide storage area in management vehicles.

The completion of these three units will allow the candidate to apply to the relevant state government body for their General Pest Management License.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, it is recommended that all students are either actively working in the pest control industry or have been or are about to engage in a role within the pest control industry.

Working within the pest control industry is advantageous to anyone completing their practical assessments, however, if students do not have access to a workplace, they can apply to Accurate Training Solutions to complete their practical training through their general pest management division. This can be discussed at the time of enrolment.

All students will be required to provide or apply for a USI number.

All students must be physically capable of fitting industry required personal protective equipment (PPE) and must not have any physical impairment that may cause safety issues in the workplace. This may include visual or auditory impairment. Students must also be able to communicate in English and have sufficient verbal communications skills to have a conversation, in English, in the workplace.

No student will be permitted to participate in any workshop if they are under the influence of alcohol, an illegal / illicit substance, or impaired by a prescribed medication and other impairment such as fatigue, mental health issues or stress.

Units of Competency

CPPUPM3005: Manage Pests Without Applying Pesticides

  •  Identify Pests: Learn to recognise common pest species and signs of infestations.
  • Implement IPM Strategies: Develop and apply integrated pest management plans using non-chemical methods.
  • Monitor Effectiveness: Conduct regular inspections and evaluations.
  • Environmental Controls: Utilise environmental modifications and physical controls.
  • Client Education: Inform clients about non-chemical pest management practices.


CPPUPM3006: Manage Pests by Applying Pesticides

  • Prepare for Application: Understand the procedures for safely preparing and handling pesticides.
  • Safe Application: Apply pesticides using safe and effective techniques.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Monitor Treatments: Evaluate the effectiveness of pesticide applications.
  • Record Maintenance: Accurately document and maintain records of pesticide use.


CPPUPM3018: Maintain Equipment and Pesticide Storage Area in Pest Management Vehicles

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance and calibration of pest management equipment.
  • Safe Storage: Implement proper storage practices for pesticides in vehicles.
  • Inventory Management: Keep an accurate inventory of pesticides and equipment.
  • Safety Standards: Follow safety protocols for handling and transporting pesticides.
  • Vehicle Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to meet safety and regulatory standards.

Once successfully completed the student may be able to apply to their relevant government authority to obtain their general pest management license.

Course Structure/Delivery

Online Learning: Course will commence with select learning materials being made available to the student via the LMS/student portal for completion along with select written knowledge assessments. This must be completed before attending the face-to-face workshop.

Five-day face-to-face Workshop: Once students complete their online learning, they will attend the five-day face-to-face workshop, which will include both theory and practical sessions in and outside the ATS training rooms. The workshop will also include the knowledge assessments, case studies, and practical training at real sites.

Final Assessment: Once the workshop has been completed, students can request to be assessed by an ATS trainers. Alternatively, students may use video and photographic evidence to demonstrate competence by submitting it through the LMS.

 

Course Outcomes

Our comprehensive pest management training program covers the skills and knowledge required to identify and manage pests effectively and safely, and allows students to obtain a General Pest Management License.

Course Duration

The student will have up to 12 months to complete the course from the time of enrolment.

The full fee for this course is  $1,265.00 to be paid by credit card or EFT.

Prior and Existing Skills

It is important that you inform and advise Accurate Training Solutions about any existing skills, knowledge, and education prior to enrolment to ensure they can provide you with the appropriate structure and support during the course.

Credit transfer is available for completed past studies in areas related to the course that participants plan to enrol in.

Candidates who believe they have already obtained current skills and knowledge that would otherwise be covered within the relevant unit of competence for which they intend to attain but have no formal prior learning should apply for RPL at the time of enrolment. The candidate’s skills and knowledge will be assessed and validated, and where appropriate, units of competency will be awarded, and the duration of the training may be reduced.

The recognition of prior learning process will be made available to students at the time of enrolment. If you can demonstrate competency through the provision of sufficient, current, valid and authentic evidence of work experience, life skills, and study or via other evidence, then you may be granted RPL for that unit of competency.

Resources

Accurate Training Solutions will ensure students have access to a range of resources as required in the units however students are required to have access to a computer (including software programs such a work and PDF readers), printers if they wish to print documents, the internet and stationery. Students will also be required to bring their own device to each session ensuring it has connectivity to the internet.

Accurate Training Solutions will provide access to a simulated and real working environment as required, as well as a range of additional resources that are required as specified in each unit.

Assessment

Assessments can be undertaken in your workplace, or we can provide you with the flexibility and opportunity to carry out your practical assessments through our attached pest control company, a real advantage for those students just starting out in the industry with no practical experience or practical training available to them.

All assessment is competency based. Students are required to complete written and practical tasks, which reflect the requirements of the units of competency and current workplace practices. Assessment is continuous throughout the duration of the course.

Completed and submitted work will be assessed within ten (10) working days and feedback provided to the student as soon as possible thereafter. Where the student’s work is assessed to be not yet satisfactory he / she will be provided with additional advice, coaching or tutoring and the opportunity to re-submit the work with a view to having it assessed as satisfactory.

Feedback and information regarding the student’s competency, progress and study will be provided by the facilitator on a regular and ongoing basis. Ongoing support is also available to all learners and will be provided as soon as a need is identified.

 

Student Support

To maximise the chance of students successfully completing their training, Accurate Training Solutions will identify any support individual students need prior to their enrolment and provide access to that support throughout their training. This will be done using the Application for Enrolment Form, which students are required to fill in.

Where a student identifies the need for LLN support, they will be required to complete a Pre Enrolment Assessment to assist in determining the student’s support needs.

The aim of both documents is to provide any support that may be required. This could include:

  • Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) support;
  • Assistive Technology
  • Additional Tutorials, and / or
  • Other mechanisms, such as assistance in using technology for online delivery components.

Where this support attracts an additional cost to the student, Accurate Training Solutions will make this clear prior to accepting the student’s enrolment. If there are limitations to the support Accurate Training Solutions is able to provide, these limitations will be made clear in information provided to a potential student.

Where Accurate Training Solutions identifies required support, such as literacy or numeracy, English or other language barriers or physical capabilities, and it cannot provide such support directly, it will refer the student to a third party. The costs of such third party support will the responsibility of the individual.

Where Accurate Training Solutions is not capable of offering an environment suitable for the needs of a student with specific identified needs, it will inform them accordingly and may direct the student to a provider that can, and thus will not process their enrolment.

Course Completion

Completing all the units of competency within this course will lead to the issuance of a Statement of Attainment for those units successfully completed.

The RTO, (RTO 45601 – National Education Pty Ltd ) will issue the Certification within 30 days of the student being deemed competent in all units they are enrolled in. All Statements of Attainments are issued in accordance with the Standards for RTOs, the AQF Handbook, and as required under the Act.

Pathways to Further Study / Career Opportunities

Once students have completed this course, they can apply for their Timber Pest Management License, seek or continue with their employment, commence business operations, or continue their studies.

Information will be provided to students on further training options available to them to further enhance their skill set.
